A Very Solemn Post

Several years ago, the Daily Post ran a health story about parents of kids with lukemia... I remember because I chose a quote from one of the mom's in the story for the headline, because I really thought it summed up the entire story......

"Kids shouldn't have Cancer..."

Today, a little girl in Iowa, named Shaelynn Sue Kelly died from a brain tumor. She was 1 month older than Eli. I didn't know Shaelyn or her parents... I actually just found her story when she was diagnosed about a year ago, on a blog of a blog of a blog, etc... I've been following her story every week and am very sad today for her family... and amazed at their faith and strength...

This post isn't meant to depress anyone, but just a small form of therapy for me in hopes that my prayers, or any of yours, can help the Kelleys in the next few months....

Hey, I was following her care page as well. It broke my heart to read that she had won her battle with cancer. Their faith has been quite an inspiration to me.

wow! i can't imagine. i read about shaelynn last year, but haven't followed her story except when brenda posts about her. i just read thru some of the posts on her care page from the last month. i saw on there that she had choroid plexus carcinoma. not sure if you remember, but when i was preggo w/trip, they found choroid plexus cysts on his brain. most of the time they are harmless (as in our case) and go away by the 32nd week of pregnancy. i praise her parent's faith in dealing with her cancer.

Nikki: I know that the Kelly family would thank you for your prayers. It has been a hard week and a lot of tears have been shed here in Iowa for her. Her family are some of my closest friends and God is working something good for this.

I found this site completely by accident. It amazes me that so many people have heard Shaelyn's story and have been praying for the Kelly's. Sam and Drew are some of the nicest people you have ever met. I know that is what everyone says at a time like this, but in their case it really is true. I know that they appreciate all the thoughts and prayers. I don't know how many people outside our little community know this, but Shaelyn's grandma also has cancer so I'm sure any continuous prayers would be welcome.

Wow, thanks for sharing this Nikki. It is so difficult just to hear about children suffering, I can't even imagine having to live it and parent a suffering child day to day. Oh, man, peace to them...

I truly believe there is a reason for everything that happens, but sometimes that reason just can't be understood by us. Children suffering is the thing that most makes me question my faith and at those times I just have to believe that God has a plan and I know he was with her.

What a brave little girl and family. I will pray for them to find peace in some way.
